Bobby John McCord

Bobby John McCord, age 90, of Centre, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at Perry Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM in the Perry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chad Foshee and Rev. Barry Kerr officiating. Burial will follow at New Nazareth Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. McCord is survived by his son, Tim (Tina) McCord; daughter, Angie Powell; grandchildren, Jake (Roza) McCord of Espoo, Finland; Cody (Morgan) Powell of Rome, Georgia, and Jessica (Tyson) Davis of Seward, Alaska; great-grandchildren, Lucas McCord, Haskell Powell, and Hall Powell; and sisters, Eloise Dempsey, Sarah Rudine Wright, and Carol (Tom) Denault. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Penny Wright McCord; his parents, Harvey John McCord and Lucille Twilley McCord; brothers, Jr. McCord, Earl McCord, and Jerry McCord; sisters, Edna Conaway and Lynn Davis; and son-in-law, Johnny Powell. Mr. McCord dedicated many years of faithful service as a lineman with Cherokee Electric Cooperative before his retirement. He retired from Cherokee Electric Cooperative after 25 years of service. He also worked for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) across the country restoring and building power lines. He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family and serving his community. He was a member of New Nazareth Baptist Church, a Mason for 55 years and served as the District Lecturer. Bobby was well liked by all who knew him. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and bee keeping. His hunting adventures included yearly trips to Colorado and as far as the Arctic Circle. His most treasured time was spent with his family especially the grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness. The family will accept flowers, or memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the New Nazareth Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. Perry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
