Janet Phillips

It is with great sadness to share that Mrs. Janet Phillips, age 75, of Rome, GA (from Lucedale, MS), passed away the afternoon of Sunday, August 04, 2024, at home in her bed, while napping. Her heart struggled to carry on without the love of her life, Paul Phillips, who passed away almost one year before. Mrs. Phillips was born in Mobile, AL, on September 16, 1948, daughter of the late Dorothy Ranager Mason and George Marvin Mason. She was also preceded in death by 1 sibling, George Mason, as well as her son, Stephen Paul Phillips and her late husband, Paul H. Phillips. Mrs. Phillips attended George County High School in Lucedale, MS, Class of 1966. She played flute in the high school marching band, where she met the love of her life, Paul Phillips (married on August 30, 1969). For 44 years, Janet served as an incredible mother to both of her children, Stephen and Sarah Phillips. Always standing up for them and engaging them in community service as well as activities to expand their abilities. She served as a lead volunteer in all of the churches she was a member of as well as at several senior living facilities wherever she lived. Mrs. Phillips was also a member at First Baptist Church in Centre, AL. Mrs. Phillips carried a giving heart, always wanting to give back to her communities she resided in. She loved animals, especially dogs. She loved living in the house she and her late husband designed on Lake Weiss in Centre, AL. She was always ready to go on family adventures; camping trips at Fall Creek Falls in Tennessee and to the beaches in Florida, as well as road trips to explore the states. She was a very dedicated wife to her husband and a fearless protector of her children. Her Christian beliefs were instilled within her at a very young age and she strived to lead by example to those around her by serving as a bible study teacher most of her adult lie. She always delighted in sharing memories of growing up on a farm and being so close to both her parents and her grandparents. Her true happiness was found either sitting on the dock, fishing, or watching the birds dancing along her series of bird feeders. As well, she was an avid gardener, always creating the most beautiful outdoor spaces wherever she lived. Survivors include her daughter, Sarah Phillips of Petaluma, CA. In accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Phillips was cremated and her daughter will be organizing a celebration of life on the Sonoma Coast of California with loved ones in support of the beautiful life Janet lived. She will forever be missed and held closely in the hearts of those she left behind but we all know that heaven received a very special angel the afternoon of August 4th and her daughter finds peace knowing that she was reunited with her husband and son, who awaited her arrival.
