Wayne Sewell

Wayne Max Sewell, age 82, went home to be with the Lord on June 8, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents Mildred James Sewell and Halbert Sewell. Funeral services will be held at 7 PM Friday at the Perry Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Danny Farley and Rev. Jim Griffin officiating. Graveside committal services will be held at 10 AM Saturday from the Shiloh/Bothwell Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6:30 PM Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shiloh/Bothwell Cemetery Fund. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty seven years, Betty Higgins Sewell, daughter Karen Smith (Alex), sons Gary Wayne (Kathy), Ernest Halbert (Marcia), James Michael (Susan). Grandchildren Mackenzie Sewell Foshee (Ben), Jessica Latham Burton (Stephen), Carlee Jane Latham, Jerrod Latham, Paul Wayne Sewell, Luke Halbert Sewell, Matthew Jennings Sewell, John Michael Sewell and James Gabriel Sewell. Great-grandchildren Dawson Foshee, Macy Foshee and Zac Foshee. Many special nieces and nephews A life long resident of Cherokee County, he graduated from Cherokee County High School in 1947. He then served with distinction with the U.S. Army during the Korean War, upon his discharge, he returned home to his beloved Cherokee County to marry his high school sweet-heart and to live the rest of his life. He was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for over 30 years and retired in 1985 to enjoy his true passions, his family, his community and the outdoors. As an outstanding high school athlete, his love of athletics and the thrill of competition kept him involved in all kinds of sports long after most men would have hung up their cleats. He enjoyed nothing more than watching his grandchildren participate in sporting activities. He was an avid hunter and nature lover and was known regionally for breeding the best hunting dogs. Wayne made numerous special friends through his involvement in the Red Fox and Buckeye Hunting Clubs. Nothing brought him more fun than his fellowship with his hunting buddies and the sound of his dogs on the hunt. As his health declined over the last several years, Wayne was sustained and surrounded by the love and support of his family and the devoted care given to him by the love of his life, Betty. Wayne Max Sewell loved the Lord, loved his family and friends and loved his country. A true man’s man, he said what he meant and meant what he said. He will be missed by all who knew him.
