William Floyd

William E. Floyd, 81 of Cedar Bluff, passed away Saturday, September 17th in Redmond Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 A.M. at Cedar Bluff First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Hendricks officiating. A military graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 A.M. (EDT) in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 PM Monday. Memorials may be made to the Cedar Bluff First United Methodist Church or the family will accept flowers. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Karen Floyd; daughters, Diana (Steven) White, Kennesaw, GA, Kathleen Floyd, Kennesaw, GA, Michele Hansford, McDonough, GA, Leah Hansford, Watkinsville, GA; grandchildren, Delaney Floyd, Atlanta, GA, Stephanie (Robert) Henderson, Hubert, NC, Shelby Floyd, Kennesaw, GA, Taylor Isbell, McDonough, GA, Daniel Floyd, Kennesaw, GA; great-grandchild, Lily Henderson, Hubert, NC; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Floyd and several brothers and sisters. Mr. Floyd was a native of Cullman County, the son of the late Harvey and Roxie Burns Floyd and was a member of the Cedar Bluff First United Methodist Church. At a young age, Bill joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served in Korea at the Chosin Reservoir and the DMZ and also served 2 tours in Vietnam. He retired from the Marine Corps with 22 plus years. Following the Marine Corps, he joined the United States Marshall Service where he served as a Deputy U.S. Marshall for over 20 years. With all his many accomplishments, his greatest was his family. Bill’s love for his family and friends will be his greatest legacy. Always there in times of need to lend a helping hand, but also to show love and support. Bill loved with his whole heart, unconditionally. Bill spent his retirement years involved in many organizations, including but not limited to the American Legion, Toys for Tots, Cherokee Country Club, E25 Functions (Easy Company 2nd Batt 5th Marines), Marine Corps League, Jake Puryear Det. 1020 Rome, GA.
