Mr. James Dalph Pickelsimer

James Dalph Pickelsimer, Cherokee County’s oldest World War II veteran passed away Monday, March 9, at the age of 99 in Huntsville, AL. James served in the US Navy from 1943 – 1946 with the Amphibious Forces of the U. S. Pacific Fleet in the Marshall, Carolina and Marianna Islands. He held the Rank of Ship Fitter 2nd Class with Standard Landing Craft Unit 34. James retired from the maintenance department of Goodyear Aerospace in Akron, Ohio with 25 years of service. He was a member and deacon of Cedar Bluff First Baptist Church and a member of the Joppa Masonic Lodge in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Chastain Pickelsimer, Sons - Jeffrey Pickelsimer and Gary Pickelsimer, parents - James and Mary (Minnie) White Pickelsimer, brothers - Wayne Pickelsimer, Lewis Pickelsimer and Thomas Leroy Pickelsimer, sisters - Jeanette White and Lois Trowell. He is survived by his son – James D. Pickelsimer III (Linda), daughter, Linda Shirl Pickelsimer both of Cedar Bluff, daughters-in-law - Linda M. Pickelsimer, Tallmadge, OH, Joy Cummins, Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Sisters – Tressie Camp, Powder Springs, GA, Opal Mitchell, Decatur, GA, Irene Larrea, Dallas, GA, Maxine (Bruce) Wood, Blue Ridge, GA, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 6 great -great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 pm on Saturday March 14, 2020 at Perry Funeral Home. Visitation from 11am to 1pm. Interment will be in Cherokee Memory Garden. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request contributions to the Cedar Bluff First Baptist Church Building Fund P.O. Box 488 Cedar Bluff, Al. 35959.
