Lovie Lee Smith Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Lovie Lee Smith was born in Alabama on July 11, 1939. She was born into a loving family. She became “Aunt Lovie to all her family, including her only son, Donell. She departed this life on March 2, 2021 at the age of 81. Lovie accepted Christ into her life at an early age and became a longtime member of New Hope United Methodist Church. During her tenure at New Hope she became a highly active member of the choir, achieving the honor of serving as the choir president. Lovie had a passion for singing. During her singing career, she took pride to serve as a member of the following groups, Trio Three, Israelites Travelers, and the AMF Quintet. She looked forward to being able to entertainment, joy, and encouragement to others through her song. She enjoyed gardening and canning and never hesitated to share her vegetation with anyone. She loved watching her grandchildren playing sports and giving them encouragement. Words cannot express the special place “Auntie” held in our hearts. From her educated wisdom, to her charming wit and uncannily ability to speak her mind. She “always” made you laugh. In her own unique way, she could take that wisdom, wit, and outspokenness, and hit you with it all at one time; respectfully so. Whether it’s telling you to “shut up”, having a conversation across the cotton field, or telling unwanted company “it’s time for you to go”, There was always laughter and love no matter what because that is who she was. She was preceded in death by her parents Ruth and Manson Smith Sr., Russell Smith (brother), Juanita Reese (sister), Dovie Banks (twin sister), Leandrus Smith (brother), Leon Smith (brother), Synthian Reese (sister). She leaves to cherish her memories her beloved son LaParka “Donell” Smith (LaRhonda); two grandchildren Tabitha, Alexis, and Ciana; One great granddaughter, Kayden; Manson Smith Jr (brother), Darrell Wyatt (brother), special friends (also family) Piacenti Bynum, Joe Lewis McElroy, devoted nieces Sharon Covington, Myrner Dean and Special cousins, Gloria Smith, Harvey McElroy Jr., and Larry Dozier; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held 12:PM Saturday, March 6rd, 2021 at Perry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tyron Jelks officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM, Friday evening at the funeral Home.
